The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Advisory Committee on Accessible Air Transportation (ACCESS Advisory Committee) is working on a negotiated rulemaking (RegNeg) to create an agreement between advocates for people with disabilities and the airline industry to ensure greater access.
HLAA, represented by Lise Hamlin, is a member of a subcommittee that is working on an agreement between advocates for people with hearing loss, those with vision loss, and airline industry representatives regarding access to entertainment and communication on airplanes. Other committees are developing rules regarding accessible lavatories and service animals. The ACCESS Advisory Committee’s work is scheduled to be completed by the end of October. They will then issue a final report to the DOT, who will take the recommendations under consideration.
