The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) issued an invitation for the public to comment on their strategic plan for 2017-2021. HLAA found the plan extremely well-conceived and comprehensive. We are encouraged that NIDCD recognizes that “the needs of the majority of adults with hearing loss are not being met, and the cost and accessibility of hearing aids are considered to be part of the barriers to care.” We are also pleased to see that NIDCD is working to support research or infrastructure that will lead to more accessible and affordable hearing health care for adults and that they see a need for community-based participation in research.
